Farr tournament just around the corner

The Jamie Farr Kroger Classic Ladies Professional Golf Association tournament will soon be here - the week of activities begins July 3, with finals on July 9. Meanwhile, volunteers are seeing to last-minute details.

If you want to get in on the action as a volunteer, it's not too late - they still need assistance in the areas of operations, events, and spectator, player, sponsor, and media services. Call the LPGA office at 531-3277 and ask for Terry Stockwell, volunteer coordinator.

TODAY STARTS the Toledo Animal Shelter Flea Market, which runs through Saturday at the shelter, 640 Wyman Rd.

IT'S A tradition in Cecelia Fischbach's family for the women to attend St. Ursula Academy, and Cecelia, a class of 1916 graduate, beamed at a recent party with her daughter, Rita Cecelia Hayes, class of 1942; granddaughter, Marcia Cecelia Rubini; class of 1975, and great-granddaughter, Sarah Cecelia Fox, class of 2000.

MARC GERTNER was shocked when he went to lunch with Sue Martin at the Toledo Country Club last Friday: As he entered, the roomful of ladies cheered. Mr. Gertner, who has been legal counsel for the Junior League of Toledo for 24 years, is retiring, so the past presidents of the group honored him at the luncheon. He was given a glass sculpture and personal notes. In return, Mr. Gertner shared memories of his tenure, including the late-night calls for assistance.

STEVE AND May Ariss opened their country French home and gardens last Sunday to launch "A Night in Monaco," the first fund-raiser for the new Mercy HealthPark West Women's Center. The event is slated for Feb. 3, 2001.

SCUBA DIVING, tennis, volleyball, and horseshoes kept guests at the Quarry Beach and Racquet Club's member/guest picnic busy in spite of last Sunday's overcast skies.

A KIDDY pedal pull, agricultural displays, and demonstrations by the Power of Yesteryear Antique Tractor Club were all part of the fun at the annual barbecue of the Wood County Historical Society last Sunday on the lawn of the center in Bowling Green.

A RECENT vacation became a reunion for Tuffy and Jan Reason - in San Francisco they dined with former Toledoans Evan Rosen and Kathy Hirzel. The couples will meet again June 25 at the Hirzel family reunion at the Hirzel Canning Co.
