Cows do part for fund-raiser

Herds of cattle and people gathered Sunday for the great “Cow Moo-neuver” held at Sunset Village in Sylvania to benefit Sunset Retirement Communities. Guests bought “deeds” to one-yard-square pieces of property, then watched to see if a cow “plopped” in their square to help them win the $10,000 prize. Chairwoman Nan Chezek opened the gates, then ran as the truckload of lively cattle charged into the field.

There was plenty to do at the family event, including line dancing, face painting, children's games, and plenty of tasty treats for a small fee. There was no admission charge, just the cost of plots, food, and fun.

BRAVO! to the awardees at the seventh annual Twenty Under Forty Recognition Awards and Reception Tuesday in the lobby of the Owens Illinois world headquarters. The event celebrated 20 individuals under 40 years of age who have made significant contributions to the community. Awardees were from all walks of life - firefighters, police officers, attorneys, teachers, social workers, businesspeople, and more - from northwest Ohio.

The Gladieux family - Nolan, 8, mom Christine, and Peyton, 6, got in the spirit of the `Cow Moo-neuver.'

The event was organized and sponsored by Eastman & Smith, Fifth Third Bank, and Toledo Edison.

THE TOLEDO OPERA Guild offered a sneak peek of La traviata, which will be presented Saturday and Oct. 11 and Oct. 13 at the Valentine Theatre.

The preview was during a luncheon Tuesday at Inverness Club. Opera Guild president is Loraine Boersma.

THE OTTAWA HILLS High School Class of 1977 celebrated its 25th anniversary with a reunion weekend. Rain cleared for a beautiful sunset cruise on the Maumee River Friday. The classmates then went to Navy Bistro, where they chatted until the wee hours.

On Saturday morning, many visited the Toledo Zoo, the Toledo Museum of Art, and COSI before meeting for lunch at the original Tony Packo's. Dinner was at Mancy's Italian with a DJ, dancing, and brief program during which address and memory books prepared by Cynthia Mauter Hauck of Dayton were distributed.

On Sunday a picnic was held at the high school, and there was a flag football fund-raiser for the school's athletic department, organized by Barry Webne of Ottawa Hills. Elizabeth Emmert of Perrysburg and Mike Thomas of Colorado chaired the reunion.

A RECEPTION Friday was held in the home of Lee Murray, president of the Association of Two Toledos, in honor of Pedro Carbone, renowned concert pianist from Spain who gave weekend recitals at the University of Toledo.
