A melodic fund-raiser for Toledo Rep

Manhattan's restaurant was filled to the brim Aug. 18 with a fun-loving crowd of Toledo Repertoire Theatre fans. A cocktail hour with tasty hors d'oeuvres whet appetites for a scrumptious dinner. The dessert was nice, but the pinnacle was the debut performance of the Repertoires, a traveling musical quartet who sang favorites from the Forever Plaid musical and golden oldies, including "Three Coins in a Fountain" and "I Left My Heart in San Francisco." Chairmen of the evening, Carolyn Fox and Areka Foster, report a net of nearly $4,000 and tons of fun.

ON AUG. 26, 1920, the Constitution was amended to grant women the right to vote. The legacy continues locally. Ann Dana, co-president with Pat Jacobsen of the League of Women Voters of Perrysburg, said the league will register voters on Sept. 11 at the Way Library and at Harrison Rally Days Sept. 18 in downtown Perrysburg.

TORCHES were carried by Toledo Roadrunners from Toledo, Port Clinton, and Bowling Green to Paramount Health Care offices in Maumee to light a torch for the United Way campaign kickoff. It's representative of the Olympian effort behind the scenes by more than 400 people from organizations throughout Lucas, Wood, and Ottawa counties to raise at least $13 million. Leading the United Way "Olympics" is campaign chairman John Meier, chairman and CEO of Libbey Inc. On the fun side of team spirit, guests competed for gold, silver, and bronze Olympic medals in a coffee cup relay, rubber band archery, and paper wad basketball, among other games. Also, for those who are were not directionally challenged, the Boy Scouts officiated a map and compass event.

DRESSED in railroad coveralls and sporting an engineer's cap, Tom Schoen invited 100 friends and family members aboard the "T&L (Tom and Lori) Express, Engine No. 25, on Aug. 17 to celebrate his and Lori's 25th wedding anniversary. The party, held at Schoen's Vintage Gardens in Perrysburg, was a surprise for Lori, who arrived to find a crowd gathered under a tent and the Loose Additude band playing in the barn.

Guests enjoyed barbecued food prepared by Dave Ruble and Dick Schoen's margaritas as they reminisced with Tom and Lori.

Among those attending were Steve and Cathy Bazeley, Jerry and Jane Siekierski, Mark Bruss, and Fritz Schoen. As an added surprise, Tom gave Lori the keys to a new Honda Element, which friends predicted soon would be loaded with mulch and plants from the couple's landscaping business.
