January is anything but dull if you know where to go. Even the gray days of winter didn't stop these folks from having fun, whether it's first-class music or celebrating with friends.

Energy filled the air at the Peristyle this weekend. Amid the crowd in the historic theater it was the sounds of Bobby McFerrin, who dazzled thousands while performing with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. On Saturday, following dual roles as featured soloist and conductor, McFerrin greeted guests of sponsor Fifth Third Bank, musicians, and TSO patrons in the Toledo Museum of Art Green Room.

Among those meeting him were Bob LaClair, Fifth Third Bank president, and his wife, Kim; Suresh and Marna Ramnath, Elaine Canning and Dan Kory, Kyle and Julie Latham, Lou Tosi and Mary Ellen Pisanelli, John and Mary Fedderke, Bill and Jean Buckley, and birthday boy Dave White, Jr., and his wife, Hilary, with daughters Audrey and Cecily.

SMB Construction Co. Inc. celebrated its 30th Anniversary Saturday night at Tamaron Country Club with family, friends, and business associates. The owner, Jim Mossing, there with wife Bonnie, said, "We are still growing despite the way things are and we are excited about the future and the next 20 years until our 50th." SMB Construction Co. Inc. was started in 1979 by James Stang, James Mossing, and Randy Bearringer and since about 1983, Mr. Mossing has been the sole owner. Back at the party, disc jockey Tommy Ray played music while guests feasted on a family-style dinner of beef tips, chicken cordon bleu, and kielbasa. Among the some 150 to 200 people in attendance were Rob Keel and his wife Kathy and Jeff Mossing and his wife Marcia. The men are vice presidents at SMB.
