The totals are in for the May 9 Making Strides against Breast Cancer walk at the Town Center in Levis Commons.

More than 3,800 participants strolled the one or three-mile circuits to help raise $82,000, according to event chairmen Sara Moynihan, Kelly Savage, and Alicia Pangrac, who is a breast-cancer survivor.

Keeping the spirit high that day were the St. John's Jesuit and Perrysburg high school bands, the Toledo Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums, St. Ursula Academy Spirit Club, and emcees Rick Woodell and Mary Beth Zolik of WRVF-FM 101.5.

Lead sponsors included Savage & Associates, the University of Toledo Medical Center, the Tompson-Williams Group at Merrill-Lynch, and FM101.5.

ALSO MAKING strides, but in a different way, was the 5th annual Eve Gala May 8 at St. James Lutheran Church with host Chrys Peterson of WTOL-TV, Channel 11.

About 60 women dined on a tasty Swiss steak dinner at tables centered with lovely spring plants, and there were door prizes for all. The speaker was Anne Baker, executive director of the Toledo Zoo. Event chairmen Carol Waddington and Doris Ziegler said the event, while not a fund-raiser, netted about $300.
