On the Town: Exchanging vows

Saying “I Do” was popular for many area couples this year. Here are a few of the brides who radiated and grooms who beamed.

ELYSSA Pesin, daughter of Sam and Donna Pesin of Ottawa Hills, married Jeffrey Kotzen, son of Peter and Karen Kotzen of Chestnut Hill, Mass., Nov. 14 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Boston, with a reception following. The couple traveled to Maui and Lanai for their honeymoon, then returned to Boston, where they reside.

ALEXANDRA Namay, daughter of Robert Namay of Holland and Soraya Namay of Sylvania, and Shauli Greenspan, son of Hank and Debbie Grinshpan of Cincinnati, were married Nov. 14 at the Toledo Club, where a reception followed. The couple honeymooned in Palm Beach, Fla., and returned to their Louisville home.

LINDSAY Smith, daughter of Regan and Cathy Smith of Old Orchard, tied the knot with Joseph Lyden, son of Jay and June Lyden of Columbus, Oct. 10 at Gesu Roman Catholic Church. A reception followed at the Hilton Garden Inn, Levis Commons. After a honeymoon in Aruba, the couple returned home to Columbus.

TWO sisters, five years apart in age, were married the same day — Oct. 3 — at different locations but combined their receptions into one.

Rachel Winder and Aaron Kurek were married at noon at First Congregational Church. Then Rebecca Winder and David Tubbs, Jr., were married at 4 p.m. at the Toledo Club, where the double reception followed.

A luncheon separated the ceremonies. During picture time, a magician did magic tricks to keep everyone occupied, and Swingmania band cranked up the tunes to keep things moving all night long.

The brides are the daughters of David and Judy Winder of the Old West End. Mr. Kurek's parents are Bruce and Rosemary Kurek of the Old West End. Mr. Tubbs parents are David and Gail Tubbs, Sr., of Jamestown, N.Y.

The Kureks, who reside in the Old West End, are planning a honeymoon at a later date. After a honeymoon in Jamaica, the Tubbs returned to their home in Atlanta.

MELISSA Latchem and Fred Brown, who met in elementary school in Perrysburg, tied the knot Sept. 12 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Toledo, with a reception following at Carranor Hunt and Polo Club. Their parents are Sandy Latchem of Perrysburg, Tom Latchem of Columbus, and Paula and Peter Brown of Perrysburg.

The couple honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii, and live in Greenwich, Conn.

SARAH Beren, daughter of Linda and Joel Beren of Ottawa Hills, exchanged matrimonial vows with Jon Karelitz, son of Robert and Emily Karelitz of Wellesley, Mass. Sept. 6 at Congregation B'Nai Israel. A reception was held at the Hilton Garden Inn, Levis Commons. The newlyweds traveled to Italy for their honeymoon before heading home to Chicago.

EDNA Kollarits, daughter of Carol and Frank Kollarits of Whitehouse, and Andy Lorenz, son of Christine Comstock and Bob Lorenz of Birmingham, Mich., tied the knot and celebrated Sept. 6 at the home of the bride's parents. After a cottage honeymoon in St. Joseph, Mich., the newlyweds settled down in Chicago.

KEVIN Walsh and Jacqueline Richards were married Sept. 5 at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Chandler, Ariz., with a reception at Villa Siena in Gilbert, Ariz. The groom is the son of Michael and Lillian Walsh of Ottawa Hills, and the bride is the daughter of Jeff and Liza Richards of Tempe.

After a honeymoon in the Greek islands of Santorini and Mykonos, and Istanbul, the newlyweds returned to their home in Philadelphia, where they both practice law, appropriate since they met at law school.

PATTI Vassallo and Ben Davis hosted their own surprise wedding Aug. 29 at Bay View Yacht Club. Guests thought they were attending a Murder Mystery Party, something the couple is noted for hosting, but it was their wedding instead.

THE matrimonial ceremony and reception for Erica Wilkowski, the daughter of Keith and Barbara Wilkowski of Toledo, and Trever Jaspers, son of Mona Rogers and Dan Jaspers, both of Litchfield, Mich., was Aug. 22 at Parkway Place. After a North Carolina honeymoon, the newlyweds returned to their Adrian home.

EMILY Palmer and Ryan Janz tied the knot Aug. 8 in Historic St. Patrick Church.

The bride is the daughter of Susan and Tom Palmer of Toledo, and the groom is the son of Nancy and Jim Clark of Ann Arbor and the late Richard Janz. After a reception at Toledo Country Club, the newlyweds traveled to Costa Rica, before returning to their home in Chicago.

KIM Mitchell, daughter of Owen and Paula Mitchell of Holland, and Adam Szuch, son of John and Yolanda Szuch of Perrysburg, celebrated their wedding Aug. 1 at Toledo Country Club.

TWIN brothers tied the knot and served as best man for one another. Sweethearts since 7th grade, Kory Yoder, the son of Jenni and Tim Yoder of Whitehouse, and Kate Burton, daughter of Kathy and Denny Kajfasz of Monclova and Brad and Ellie Burton of Indiana, married July 10 at Toledo Country Club. After their honeymoon in France and Italy they returned to their home in Chicago.

Then on Aug. 15 the groom's twin brother, Kyle Yoder, married Jamie Dressell, daughter of Mary and Dave Dressell of Whitehouse. The wedding was at St. Joseph's Church, Maumee, with a reception at the Yoder residence.

The newlyweds honeymooned in the Teton Mountains and moved to Denver.

IAN Rockwood, son of John and Jennifer Rockwood of Toledo, and Molly Currence of Avon Lake, Ohio, daughter of Andrea Currence of Lorain, Ohio, and Doug Currence of Lakewood, Ohio, were married July 11 at First Congregational Church. A reception followed at Navy Bistro with John Rockwood's Voodoo Libido band and Detroit recording artist Sir Mac Rice, who wrote “Mustang Sally.” After a Las Vegas honeymoon, the newlyweds returned to their Ann Arbor home.

MEGAN Geswein, daughter of Rose and Greg Geswein of Ottawa Hills, and Marty Brotschul, son of Martin and Barbara Brotschul of Schaumburg, Ill., were married June 27 in Chicago at the Field Museum with a reception following. After a Majorca, Spain, honeymoon, the newlyweds returned to their Chicago home.

COAST Guard sweethearts Brittani Lashaway and Ryan Koroknay were married June 20 in Rosary Cathedral with a reception at Toledo Yacht Club. The bride is the daughter of Les and Debbie Lashaway of Toledo, and the groom is the son of Tom and Debbie Koroknay of Lexington, Ohio. Ryan and Brittani met at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. They are stationed in Portsmouth, Va.

MICHAELA Metts and Eric Mavis were married Dec. 27, 2008, in the Toledo Museum of Art followed by a reception before skipping off to Italy for a honeymoon. The bride, the daughter of Marie Good of Maumee and Glenn Metts of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas and the groom, the son of Paige Paneff of Sylvania and Mark Mavis of Toledo, reside in downtown Toledo.

ERIN Fitzgerald and Cameron Scholes lived in Columbus, but they met in San Francisco. The couple tied the knot Aug. 8, 2008, in Kate Sessions in seaside LaJolla, Calif., with a reception at The Omni Hotel in San Diego, where they now reside. They honeymooned in Bora Bora. The bride is the daughter of Rob Fitzgerald of Columbus and Cindy Folger of Toledo, and the groom is the son of Chris Polling of San Diego and Steve Scholes of Columbus.
