    A big ticket deal at $500 per person was the Une Celebration de Bordeaux to benefit ProMedica Health System's Ebeid Hospice Residence.

    Chairmen of the third annual wine event that took place Oct. 23 at the historic Secor Building were Jim and Kay Murray, and honorary chairman was Jim Findlay.

    Featured were estate wines from the Bordeaux region of France, an extraordinary dining experience from Evans Street Station in Tecumseh, Mich., and decadent desserts from Eston's Gourmet Creations in Sylvania.

    Meanwhile, Melanie Covington wowed the audience of more than 100 with her singing.

    Also on the slate were the live and silent auctions which offered opportunities to purchase wine, art, entertainment packages, and more. The $35,000 netted from the soiree supports those who cannot afford hospice services.

    ALSO cashing in on wine tastings was the Boys and Girls Clubs wine dinner Nov. 3 at the Toledo Club. The outstanding eight-course dinner with superb wines to match was organized by Jeannie Hylant with the assistance of her sister Sandra Hylant and niece Jackie Berenzweig. The wines were provided by Tom McHugh of Heidelberg Distributing and Claudio Salvatore of Specialty Wine Imports. The amazing wines were direct from Livorno and the Sardinia of the Tuscan region in Italy.

    Special guests were wine makers Massimo Piccin-Podere Sapaio and Antonella Mancini-Cantina Pedres, who were on a visit from Italy.

    Guest pourers included board president Tim Wade, board members Sara Moynihan, Don Harbaugh, and Connie Schmidt, and new board member Duke Wheeler, Jr., along with Mayor Mike Bell, an alumnus of the Boys and Girls Clubs and member of the National Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame.

    Also assisting with pouring were John Underwood, Tony Packo, Sr., Kerry Suhy, and Chrys Peterson.

    The event raised about $15,000.
