OTT: Jazz orchestra makes a great comeback

The Toledo Jazz Orchestra is back in full force, if its recent performance at the Valentine Theatre on Nov. 19 is any indication. The place sizzled with energy as TJO presented "An Evening with Nat and Natalie" led by the orchestra's new musical director, Ron Kischuk. It was a special thrill for guest Harriet Walter, who reveled in the memory of seeing Nat King Cole at the old Paramount Theatre.

All smiles were the orchestra's new board of directors including president Marty Porter, Fritz Byers, Don Leary, Scott Potter, and Ann Sanford. Other supporters included Debbie and John Joslin, Karla Juergens, Carol and John Luscombe, Ann and Hy Kisin, Susan and David Eriksen, and Mary Martin.

THE Toledo Club hosted a reverse raffle Nov. 20 to support the club's athletic department, which includes squash courts, a swimming pool, a fitness center, a running track, and more. John Stockwell and Mike Goetz had the last two tickets and decided to split the top prize of $3,000 and the second place prize of $1,000, so they both went home with $2,000 cash. Athletic committee chairman Marty Connors was assisted by Jim Burnor, Alex Due, Mr. Goetz, and many others.
