Leadership Toledo networks at breakfast

Toledo is full of folks who support the community.

LEADERSHIP Toledo's annual Leadership Breakfast drew more than 600 community movers and shakers to the Stranahan Theater and Great Hall on March 4.

The nonprofit organization fosters involvement in the greater Toledo area.

The event started with networking and a continental breakfast followed by a presentation about Youth Leadership Toledo, a program that includes about 50 sophomores from local and area high schools.

Proceeds from the breakfast -- about $60,000 -- support the youth program. Scott High School senior TiRhohn Sanders gave a heart-felt message of what Youth Leadership Toledo has meant to him. David Westmeyer III, a senior at Toledo Christian School, also discussed the program.

In the crowd were Rob Loeb, D. Michael Collins, Jerome Pecko, Carrie Serber, Lynn Olman, Veronica Pinciotti, Julie Payeff, Stu Goldberg, Bob LaClair, Karen Fraker, Margo Estes, Sandy Alexander, Cynthia Beekley, Peter Papadimos, Rick Brunner, Keith and Chris DeWalt, Jeff Thieman, Paul Hollenbeck, Jenny Antonini, Michael McGowan, Ken Wood, Malcolm Richards, Doug Dymarkowski, Brenda Michalski, Vicky Brymer, Scott Newsom, Debra Peters, Ken Knight, and David Zamichow.

THERE'S still chatter about the Advertising Club of Toledo's annual ADDY Awards Feb. 24 in the Stranahan. The big talk concerns the American Advertising Association Silver Medal Award for contribution to the local industry and community presented to Joe Pinciotti of UlrichPiciotti Design Group.

More than 350 advertising and marketing professionals gathered to view the 258 entries in 107 categories. Presenters announced 31 gold ADDY Awards, 33 silver ADDYs, and 19 bronze.

Best of Show was Bowling Green State University's entry in Book Design for BGSU Centennial Fact Book: 100 Facts for 100 Years, 1910-2010.

Other Gold ADDY winners included Business Voice, R/P Marketing Public Relations, UlrichPinciotti Design Group, University of Toledo, and Madhouse.

THE TOLEDO Sail and Power Squadron's annual winter rendezvous last weekend was at the Carriage House on the Harbor, South Haven, Mich. Cruise coordinators Don and Jan Leutz said it was a blast with 14 squadron members gathering for socializing, shopping, dining, and sightseeing.

SEWHOPE, an organization to boost the health, education, and economic status of people of the Peten region in Guatemala, recently held its fourth annual LEAP Event: Love Ends All Poverty at The Pinnacle.

The 220 supporters included founder and executive director Dr. Anne Ruch and her husband, Randy. Nearly $20,000 was raised, and Margaret Lockhart of the Toledo chapter of Zonta International presented SewHope with an $8,200 grant for a project to reduce cervical cancer.

Event organizers included Mark and Gloria Buganski, Pam Buganski, and Christine McMahon and her husband, Robert Robinson.

Seen were Lauri and Rod Cooper, Kathleen and Pat Daney, Terrell Allen and Marc Levin, Gloria and Mike Sheline, Bob and Kathie Kolodgy, Eileen Kerner, Anne Huebner, Dave Mallory, Jim and Joanie Trempe, and Bill Balzer.

CONGRATS go to local community supporter Dean Roberts of Holland. Many know him as helping with the Boy Scouts of America and other local charities. He recently was inducted into the ROTC Hall of Fame at Central Michigan University, his alma mater. He is a member of the ROTC class of 1955.
