On the Town: Partygoers help Artists' Club, Habitat for Humanity

The Toledo Artists' Club's 50th annual auction was last month at Gladieux Meadows. More than 100 people bid on nearly 100 works of art judged by David Guip, director of art education at the University of Toledo.

The TAC is one of the oldest continuously running artists' clubs in the country.

Winning best of show was Tom Sorrell for Splendid Solitude; first place went to Julie Draeger for Flower Circle; second place, Paul Brand for Fishing Shack, Maine; third place, Kim Stanelius for California Beauty; merit awards: Robert Martin, Trudy Kahn, John Cook, Sue Stewart, Rick Dziak, and Renee Brand.

Auction chairmen were Duane Lammers and Melva Sickelbaugh.

The auction netted approximately $2,000 for the club. Proceeds support the club and provide a college scholarship to an art student.

Also last month was the Paint Brush Affair to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Wood County.

More than 50 attendees at the event in the Clazel Theater in Bowling Green helped to raise $1,500 for the cause.

There was food from SamB's, music by Jeff Tucker from the On the Beach band, a caricature artist, raffles, a silent auction of art, and more.

A paint your own dessert -- a frosted cookie with edible paint -- let everyone show their creativity.

Sponsors included Meijer of Bowling Green and PENTA Career Center.

Event chairman was Julie Bermudez, a Habitat volunteer, who was assisted by many folks including Perrysburg Area Arts Council and Habitat volunteers.
