On the Town: Clambake at Schedel honors gardens' founders

    Schedel Gardens and Arboretum in Elmore, Ohio, celebrated its 20th anniversary recently during its annual clambake under a giant tent in the gardens.

    Guests sipped beverages in the serene setting as the Roger Schupp Quartet with Chris Buzzelli and vocals by Lori LaFevre played background tunes.

    A small silent auction enticed many to do some shopping.

    The tasty dinner with lobster, clams, and more was prepared by Stella's Restaurant in Perrysburg.

    The evening was casual, but the reason for coming was serious for a few moments.

    A DVD presentation was made by Brad Harvey with the assistance of Grant Cummings honored the garden's founders, Joseph and Marie Schedel, Richard Fisher, the first director of the gardens, and Reginald Noble, who retired as the garden's director in July, 2009. His son, Rod Noble, is the current director.

    The laid-back evening ended with a beautiful fireworks display. Among the 150 garden supporters were Pat and Marilyn McAlear, Joe and Chris Vedra, John and Kaye Harbal, Al and Karen O'Neal,Harold Roe, Larry and Nancy Hutson, Marty and Kathy Holmes, Dick and Dolly Flasck, Reg and Sherry Noble, Dick and Kathy Faist, Larry Dillin and Cheryl Hardy, Fred Bostleman, and Bob, Joan, Doug, and Sondra Samsen.
