Summer in northwest Ohio is not complete without at least one trip to Fifth Third Field even in a year when the Mud Hens are struggling mightily.

Where else can you high-five a big goofy bird, gorge on cotton candy, soak up the sun, and relish that most American of summer rituals of taking in a baseball game?

Each year attendance tops a half million at the downtown Toledo ball park as people of all demographics take advantage of beautiful weather and the unique camaraderie that comes with sitting outside and watching baseball. It’s as much a social outing as it is about sports because the game’s natural rhythms allow time to talk, clown around with kids, and eat a big pile of tasty junk food without feeling guilty about it.
