SPRING has sprung and the grass is green and the crocuses and daffodils are blooming.
New places are also sprouting up.

BMW of Toledo’s new digs at 7600 W. Central Ave. is officially open. Hobnobbers at the Yark Automotive Group dealership’s grand opening last week perused the bright spacious showroom, open offices, a customer service area, and the body shop, as well as a display of BMW logo items including T-shirts, keychains, and mugs. The construction was done by Rudolph/​Libbe and the design was by Coger-Shambarger Architects, both locally owned.

Valet service and a complimentary car wash was provided for the brunch. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served, but guests — many of whom are already BMW owners — spent the majority of their time perusing the new place.

Guests of all ages from D.J.’s grandma, Patty Poll, to the youngest guest, his nephew, Webster Yark, son of Billy and Tenley Yark, were in attendance. There were also guests from BMW of Dallas.
A VIP party celebrated the grand opening of Carlos’ Poco Loco at 1809 Adams St. in the UpTown Toledo district. The restaurant, owned by Carlos and Lupita Mendez, serves fresh Mexican and Cuban cuisine. The spacious spot has a huge bar, a stage for bands, and a separate dining room, all with colorful decor including Mexican glass displays.
THE 24th annual dinner of the Wood County Economic Development Commission was last week at the Hilton Garden Inn in Perrysburg. A long networking hour was held before the dinner and program led by emcee Jerry Anderson of WTOL-TV, Channel 11. This year’s Corporate Citizen of the Year Award was presented to the National Tractor Pulling Championship.
THE Junior Bar Association of Toledo hosted a TOPPS reception at the Toledo Club last week was for trustees, Order of the Sole and Heel awardees, past presidents, and supporters of the Toledo Junior Bar Association and its annual Gridiron Show.
Junior Bar co-Presidents Karin Coble and Troy Hawkins greeted everyone.
This year’s Gridiron is May 17 at the Valentine Theatre.
THE annual Ellen Jackson Ovarian Cancer Walk presented by Buckeye Broadband is Sept. 16, at the University of Toledo Health Science Campus, formerly the Medical College of Ohio. A previous story reported the incorrect date — it is always on a Saturday. Oops!
THE National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc. held an etiquette seminar at Indiana Baptist Church. The seminar is among the classes for participants on the Cotillion Scholarship Program, which culminates with the 52nd annual Cotillion Debutante Ball on May 27 at the Stranahan Great Hall.
Presenter and Cotillion co-chairman Denise Cardwell said that the organization recognizes that the “rules” of etiquette are unspoken rules determined by society to ensure a peaceful co-existence between people. Therefore topics in the seminar included self-image, appearance, public speaking, respect, attitude, and more.
The workshops for the 23 area high school seniors also involve debs-in-waiting (juniors) and the escorts (male students or family members). Weekly sessions run until May 22 when the Debutantes Talent Night is at Keyser Elementary School. The talent night and Cotillion are open to the public.
Cotillion chairman Wilma Brown, co-chairman Karen Jarrett, historian Mary Dawson, President Denise Black-Poon, and Larry Cardwell assisted with the recent seminar.
