10/22/2004

Dr. Ian Smith, the medical correspondent for NBC News network, will visit Thackeray's Books, 3301 W. Central Ave., Sunday to discuss his first novel, "The Blackbird Papers" (Doubleday Books, 2004).

Known for his many appearances on NBC's the Today show and Nightly News, Dr. Smith's new work is a departure from his non-fiction medical books, "Dr. Ian Smith's Guide to Medical Web sites" and "The Take-Control Diet", both published by Random House.

His new work is about the murder of a Nobel Prize-winning Dartmouth professor, whose death has all the earmarks of a hate crime until the victim's brother, an FBI agent, turns up as the lead investigator and finds himself thrust into the role of prime suspect.

Dr. Smith, a Danbury, CT. native graduated from Harvard University with an AB in '92 and received a masters in science education from Columbia University in May 1993. He attended Dartmouth Medical School where he founded a mentoring program for the school's minority students, and he completed the last two years of his medical education at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He currently resides in New York.

Dr. Ian Smith will appear at 2 p.m. Sunday for a discussion and book signing for his debut novel The Blackbird Papers (Doubleday) at Thackeray's Books, 3301 W. Central Ave. Information: 419-537-9259.

Local author Larry Donald Weseman will sign copies of his new thriller, Operation - ANNIHILATION, Divided We Fall, Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fireside Books in Orchard Centre, Airport Highway at Holloway Road.

The novel, set in 2006, deals with terrorists threatening to attack the United States again. But this time they are openly warning, " Here We Come."
