He was honored by the New York Times last week with $2,500 and a commemorative plaque.

A resident of Harlem, Fullwood has a 1992 bachelor of arts degree in English and broadcasting from the University of Toledo, and a 1997 masters in library science from Clark Atlanta University.

He is the son of Steve J. Fullwood, a chef at Mancy's, and the late Elaine E. Houston.
