Walter Mosley to open Authors! Authors! series

Mystery writer Walter Mosley opens the 2006-2007 Authors! Authors! speakers series with a Sept. 28 talk.

Among his 23 books are the Devil in a Blue Dress, A Red Death, White Butterfly, A Little Yellow Dog, and Bad Boy Brawly Brown.

Fantasy and science fiction writer Mercedes Lackey will speak Oct. 25. Often collaborating with other writers, she has published dozens of novels and short stories since 1987, including several multibook series such as Heralds of Valdemar, Bardic Voices, and Elemental Masters. Stories often feature complex interactions between human and nonhuman protagonists from different cultures.

David Gergen, who wrote Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership Nixon to Clinton, takes the podium Nov. 1. He was a White House adviser to Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton and is professor of public service at Harvard University and editor-at-large for U.S. News & World Report magazine.

The host of the PBS television show Daisy Cooks!, Daisy Martinez, an expert in Latin-inspired cuisine, will speak March 1, 2007. She has written Daisy Martinez Cooks: Latin flavors that will Rock Your World.

Yet to be announced are two speakers for the spring.

The Authors! Authors! series is sponsored by the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and The Blade. Talks are at 7 p.m. in the Stranahan Theater Great Hall. Tickets are $10. Information: 419-259-5266.

Waterville Playshop will hold its annual summer theater workshop for children from Monday through July 28 at the Monclova Community Center. Children completing grades 2-8 are welcome to the morning or afternoon camp, which will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3:30

National City and the Library Legacy Foundation will present A Midsummer Night - Up On The Roof at 8 p.m. July 22 at the Main Library, 325 Michigan St. Taking place on the rooptop of Civic Plaza, the event features a cash bar, music, and food. The event will be held rain or shine and benefits the Library's Summer Reading Club for children and teens and Homework Help Centers at central city libraries. AUDITIONS
