What he's reading: Rodney Rogers

THOUGHTS ON THE BOOK: I am a big fan of Jim Collins. In his books, Good to Great and Built to Last, he provides excellent points with regards to developing world class business organizations. However, a more recent monograph, Good to Great and the Social Sectors, should be required reading of anyone who works in a nonprofit organization or serves as a board member of a nonprofit. This monograph includes some initial observations after Mr. Collins studied various world-class social sector organizations. For those who have read his previous work, you will find similar metaphors about "flywheels" and "hedgehogs." However, you will see how one might apply these concepts into the nonprofit world. For those of us working in the social sector, his monograph provides much food for thought.
