Authors! Authors! returns; seven speakers are scheduled for series to begin Sept. 19

The 14th season of the popular Authors! Authors! series begins Sept. 19 and continues into June.

Speakers for the series sponsored by The Blade and the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library will be Susan L. Taylor, Joe Klein, Jim Trelease, David Yonke, Marian Wright Edelman, Kathy Reichs, and Meg Cabot.

Opening the series on Sept. 19 will be Susan L. Taylor, columnist for Essence magazine and author of In the Spirit and The Spiritual Wisdom That Has Shaped Our Lives.

Joe Klein, speaking on Oct. 18, writes about politics for Time magazine. He authored Primary Colors and Politics Lost: How American Democracy Was Trivialized by People Who Think You're Stupid.

For 25 years, Jim Trelease, author of the Read-Aloud Handbook, has promoted the benefits of reading out loud to children. He'll take the podium Nov. 1.

Blade religion editor David Yonke will talk Feb. 7 about his coverage of Toledoan Father Gerald Robinson's crime and punishment for the ritual murder of a Roman Catholic nun. Yonke wrote Sin, Shame, and Secrets.

Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund, will speak April 16. Among her books are The Measure of Our Success: A Letter to My Children and Yours.

On May 6, Kathy Reichs will discuss her bestselling Temperance Brennan crime/mystery series, in which she incorporates aspects of forensic anthropology.

Meg Cabot, author of the Princess Diaries, will speak June 10. Cabot has written nearly 50 books for teens and adults, and her Princess Diaries series were made into two hit movies by Disney.

Authors! Authors! talks are at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. Tickets may be purchased at any library branch and are $10 for adults, $8 for students, and $27 for the three-speaker fall series. Information: 419-259-5266.
