A soldout appearance on Sept. 27 for comic book writing legend Stan Lee has been canceled for a second time, Toledo-Lucas County Public Library staffers confirmed today.

The library sold 2,300 tickets for the engagement, which was scheduled as part of the popular Authors! Authors! series cosponsored by the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and The Blade.

It was unclear today whether the event will be able to be rescheduled, said Meg Delaney, manager of the main library and coordinator of Authors! Authors!, which is in its 19th season.

"The only information we have at this point is that Mr. Lee can't make it Sept. 27," she said.

Library spokesman Susan Gibney said Mr. Lee's agent did not give a specific reason for the cancellation, other than to say it was for "a very serious circumstance."

Mr. Lee's original appearance at Authors! Authors! was to be April 18, but it was changed because of a scheduling conflict.

Mr. Lee, who turns 90 in December, is the former head of Marvel Comics, and helped create Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and the Incredible Hulk in the early 1960s.
