Stan Lee cites ‘personal matters’ for cancellation

Stan Lee's second cancellation of a scheduled Authors! Authors! appearance means that the legendary comic book writer-creator likely won't be speaking at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library series anytime soon.

"It is my intention not to reschedule," Meg Delaney, manager of the Main Library, said Friday.

Lee was contracted to appear Thursday and prior to that April 18. All tickets purchased for either event will receive a full refund.

Lee, 89, canclled his April appearance for a work conflict, and Thursday's sold-out appearance for "personal matters."

“Due to last-minute scheduling conflicts and personal matters, regretfully and unfortunately, I will not be available to attend the Toledo Library Event on Thursday, Sept. 27," Lee said in a statement provided to the library. "I’m very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause for all those involved.”

Max Anderson, Lee's event coordinator, said rumors that Lee is "sick or dying are totally a lie. He's as healthy as a horse."

"I feel bad, I wish we could do something for them [the Library]. That whole weekend we are not doing anything."

Anderson said that he wanted to reschedule Lee's Authors! Authors! appearance, with the possibility of an Oct. 11 appearance, the night before Lee flies to New York for a comic-book convention.

"I would love to reschedule anytime," he said.

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library said those who purchased a ticket to Lee's event are advised to leave their name and address, together with their original Lee ticket at the customer service desk at any library location. A refund check will be mailed to their address. No refunds will be granted without the original ticket.
