Area college football roundup: Hooker leads Defiance to 7-0

FRANKLIN, Ind. - Maurice Hooker rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns to lead undefeated Defiance to a 27-7 victory yesterday over Franklin.

Hooker carried the ball 30 times and scored on touchdown runs of 8 and 2 yards, the first score coming with 10 seconds remaining in the first half.

Defiance (7-0, 4-0 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) finished with 411 yards, more than twice the 191 yards gained by Franklin (2-5, 1-2).

Matt Daniel connected on field goals of 27 yards and 38 yards for Defiance in the second quarter.

Nathan Sucheki also scored on a 10-yard pass from Kevin Kelly in the fourth quarter.

Franklin's lone touchdown came when Ryan Okerson caught a nine-yard pass from Eric Sabo with just over four minutes remaining in the game.

BLUFFTON 38, MANCHESTER 3

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - Jovan Johnson carried the ball 18 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns for Bluffton.

Both of Johnson's touchdowns came in the first quarter on runs of 29 and 4 yards.

Brad Moore scored on a seven-yard run for Bluffton (3-4, 2-2 Heartland) and threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jim Dwenger in the third quarter.

T.J. Philpot scored on a seven-yard run in the fourth to close out the scoring for Bluffton, which finished with 384 total yards of offense to 199 yards for Manchester (1-6, 0-3).

WILMINGTON, 42, HEIDELBERG 0

TIFFIN - Adam Ryan passed for 288 yards and four touchdowns to lead Wilmington.

Ryan completed three of his touchdown passes, including two to Jonathan Cain, in the first half as the Quakers (4-3, 4-3 OAC) took a 28-0 lead.

Cain, who caught seven passes for 239 yards receiving, also scored on backup quarterback Jeff Bean's third-quarter touchdown pass.

B.J. Dwyer completed 10 of 22 passes for 167 yards for the Student Princes (1-6, 1-5).

ALBION 31, ADRIAN 14

ADRIAN - Travis Rundle completed 20 of 27 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown for Albion.

Adrian (1-6, 1-1 Michigan Intercollegiate) took an early lead into the second quarter of its Homecoming game and had a 14-9 advantage midway through the third until Jeff Long scored on a five-yard run and the Britons (5-2, 2-0) made the two-point conversion to take the lead for good.

Jared Owens scored on a 72-yard pass from Rundle to finish with a game-high 120 receiving yards, then Leon McDonald threw a 35-yard pass to Adam Auvenshine for the final TD.

Adrian's Joe Davis completed 21 of 29 passes for 178 yards, including touchdown throws to Steve Krass and Joe Saah.

INDIANAPOLIS 20, HILLSDALE 17

HILLSDALE, Mich. - Dennis Nisbet's 23-yard field goal gave Indianapolis a 20-17 overtime victory.

The Greyhounds (6-2, 5-2 Great Lakes) took a 17-10 lead on Matt Kohn's nine-yard touchdown pass to Nisbet with 6:09 left in the fourth quarter.

But the Chargers (3-5, 3-4) tied it on Bill Skelton's one-yard TD run with 1:33 left in regulation.

Blake Barisich missed a 42-yard field goal attempt on Hillsdale's second possession in overtime.

Indianapolis then got the ball at the Chargers' 25, and Chad Schulte carried six straight times for 19 yards to set up Nisbet's winning kick.

Kohn, who also threw an 18-yard TD pass to Donnie McCoy, finished 14-of-27 for 213 yards. Schulte had 61 yards on 34 carries.

Skelton completed 13 of 31 passes for 138 yards, including a nine-yard scoring pass to Ed House, and led all rushers with 117 yards on 19 carries.

FINDLAY 31, NORTHWOOD 19

FINDLAY - Jeff Fraser completed 24 of 34 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns to lead Findlay (2-6, 2-5 GLIAC).

Four different receivers caught TD passes including Mark Inkrott (9 catches, 155 yards), Ty Rhoad, Robert Campbell and Mark Meibers.

Campbell led the Oilers on the ground with 92 yards on 23 carries.

Sleepie Tollie led Northwood (1-5, 1-5). He completed 15 of 28 passes for 230 yards and two TDs, both to Ron Hunter.

Findlay jumped out to a 17-10 lead at halftime but Northwood cut it to 17-16 entering the fourth.

Meibers caught a 12-yard TD pass from Fraser for a 24-16 lead but Northwood responded with a three-yard TD run by Tollie.

The Oilers put it away with a 19-yard strike from Fraser to Rhoad with 5:08 left.

Findlay had 457 total yards (150 rushing) to Northwood's 315 (85 rushing).

TRI-STATE 50, TIFFIN 24

TIFFIN - Pete Hobbs ran for 204 yards and three touchdowns for Tri-State (5-2, 3-1 Mid-States).

Joe Perchinske finished with 157 yards passing for Tiffin (2-6, 2-2), throwing for two touchdowns and running for another.
