Corbin runs for 380 yards, 5 TDs as Tiffin wins on Sandrock's FG

QUINCY, Ill. - Ben Sand-rock's 36-yard field goal with no time left gave Tiffin a 47-44 victory yesterday over Quincy.

Garrion Corbin rushed for 380 yards on 44 carries for the Dragons (2-8), who led 31-10 at halftime and was on top 38-16 going into the fourth quarter.

Quincy (4-7) had tied the game at 44-44 on LeVar Ammons' one-yard run with 2:28 left.

Corbin scored five times on runs of 4, 3, 8, 54 and 21 yards.

Shane DeSherlia completed 34-of-53 passes for 384 yards and three scores for Quincy. He was intercepted one time. He threw two touchdown passes and ran for another TD in the fourth quarter.

Ammons had 11 catches for 126 yards and also rushed 17 times for 79 yards and three touchdowns.

Tiffin averaged almost eight yards per rush, totaling 415 yards on the ground on 53 carries.

DEFIANCE 29, BLUFFTON 6

BLUFFTON - Corey Minnfield threw three first-quarter touchdown passes for Defiance.

Minnfield, a Woodward graduate, threw touchdown passes of five and nine yards five minutes apart to Aaron Schmidt. His 58-yard pass to Casey Johnson gave the Yellowjackets (3-7, 1-5 in the Heartland Conference) a 22-0 with 2:43 remaining in the first.

Minnfield completed 15 of 23 passes for 239 yards with one interception. Jason Gendron added a 17-yard touchdown run with 3:11 remaining in the game.

With the win, Defiance snaps a six-game losing streak. Mike Moran (Bedford) rushed for 84 yards on 29 carries. Chad Meyers (Bowsher) caught four passes for 85 yards.

Bluffton quarterback Brad Moore injured his shoulder early in the first quarter and didn't return to the game. Without Moore, the Beavers (3-7, 1-5 HC) were held to just 10 yards passing, 154 yards in total offense and 10 first downs.

OHIO NORTHERN 28,

HEIDELBERG 0

TIFFIN - Derek Garrod ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns and Zach Weber added 136 yards rushing for Ohio Northern.

Garrod scored on runs of 21 and 10 yards in the second quarter to give the Polar Bears (5-5, 5-4 Ohio Conference) a 21-0 lead.

Ohio Northern ran for 330 yards on 73 carries while holding Heidelberg to 74 yards on 29 attempts. The 'Berg (2-8, 2-7) also managed only 53 yards passing and had just five first downs.

The Polar Bears' other TDs came on Curt Hartman's (Otsego) 49-yard interception return in the first and Adam Quirk's four-yard run in the fourth.

KALAMAZOO 31, ADRIAN 24

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Bryan Gnyp scored a touchdown with 1:51 remaining in the game to lift Kalamazoo.

Gnyp's TD, which came on a one-yard run, broke a 24-24 tie. Gnyp also led the Hornets (5-5, 2-4 Michigan Intercollegiate) in passing with 219 yards on 19 completions with one interception. Matthew Jarboe led the team in rushing with 86 yards on 26 attempts.

Adam Tubaro led Adrian (6-4, 3-3) in passing with 209 yards on 21 completions with three interceptions. Steve Kress caught seven passes for 79 yards and one touchdown.

HILLSDALE 56, MERCYHURST 7

ERIE, Pa. - Hillsdale's Bill Skelton threw three touchdowns and rushed for another, all in the first half.

Skelton threw for 211 yards on 17-of-27 passing and rushed for 57 yards on six carries for Hillsdale (4-7, 4-6 Great Lakes Athletic Conference). Kevin Clive rushed for 129 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries and caught a 19-yard touchdown pass.

Meanwhile, Jim Schuler struggled for Mercyhurst (2-9, 1-9) throwing for 58 yards on 6-of-16 passing with two interceptions. Mercyhurst turned the ball over five times.

Skelton scored the Chargers' first four touchdowns, three in the second quarter, as Hillsdale scored five unanswered touchdowns.

GRAND VALLEY 63, FINDLAY 19

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Curt Anes threw for 252 yards and five touchdowns on 17-of-20 passing with no interceptions to lead Grand Valley, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II.

Reggie Spearmon ran for 156 yards and one TD on 20 attempts to lead the Lakers (10-0, 9-0 Great Lakes) in rushing.

Terrance Banks caught eight passes for 105 yards and one TD to lead the Lakers in receiving and David Kircus caught five passes to chip in 103 yards and four TDs.

Jeff Fraser threw for 119 yards and one TD on 13-of-21 passing with no interceptions for Findlay (9-2, 8-2).

Robert Campbell (Scott) ran 20 times for 81 yards and one TD for the Oilers. Andy Witker (Eastwood) caught six passes for 48 yards and one TD for the team.

Grand Valley outrushed Findlay 326-to-211 yards. They outpassed the Oilers 324-to-143.
