Owens to host Edison

2/22/2003

The Owens Community College women's and men's basketball teams will play their final conference home games today, both against Edison State Community College.

The women's game will begin at 2 p.m. The Express is 17-8 overall and 8-4 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference, good for a second-place tie with Edison (18-7) and Lakeland CC.

Owens and Edison will meet again on Tuesday, a game that was postponed from last week due to snow and ice. That game will be at Edison in Piqua, Ohio.

In this week's NJCAA Division II women's poll, Owens is ranked No. 11 in the nation. The final regular-season OCCAC standings will determine the seeding for the conference tournament, to be held Feb. 27-March 1 in Kirtland. Owens will host the NJCAA Region XII women's tournament March 4-8.

The Owens men are 23-4 overall and 10-2 in the OCCAC, good for second place behind 11-1 Cincinnati State CC. Edison comes into the 4 p.m. game at 14-12 and 6-6.

The Express men are ranked No. 4 nationally in the NJCAA Division II poll.

With the OCCAC not holding a men's conference tournament this season, the final regular-season standings will determine the seeding for the NJCAA Region XII tournament, set for March 6-8 in Dayton.

Both of today's games will be played at the Student Health and Activities Center. Admission is free.
