Defiance, Gendron dump Grove City for 1st win

GROVE CITY, Pa. - Jason Gendron rushed for 100 yards on 20 carries and scored the go-ahead touchdown as Defiance beat Grove City 14-9 yesterday.

Gendron capped a 77-yard drive with a 14-yard touchdown run to give the Yellowjackets (1-2) a 14-7 lead in the third quarter.

Grove City (1-2) drove to the Defiance 32 yard line on its final possession, but a fourth-and-2 run by Brandon McGlothlin came up just short of a first down.

Defiance also scored on a 13-yard pass from Corey Minnfield to Aaron Schmidt on its first possession of the third quarter, ending a 73-yard drive.

Grove City scored first on a 68-yard drive that ended with a short touchdown run by Ken Roudybush. The Wolverines also scored on a safety with six seconds left in the third quarter.

MUSKINGUM 45, HEIDELBERG 14

TIFFIN- Danny Johnson had two long returns for touchdowns and Trevor Cooper rushed for 175 yards and two TDs as Muskingum beat Heidelberg in the Ohio Conference opener for both teams.

Johnson returned a fumble 46 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and a punt 57 yards for a touchdown in the fourth. Cooper scored on a 12-yard run in the third and a one-yard run in the fourth.

Heidelberg (0-2) took a 14-10 lead at halftime on two touchdown passes from Adam Haught to Roc Patterson. The Muskies (2-0) scored 14 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth, capped by Shannon Nutter's two-yard run with 2:07 to play.

Patterson finished with 118 yards on six catches. Avaunte Miller rushed for 89 yards for Heidelberg.

EDINBORO 39, TIFFIN 14

EDINBORO, Pa. - Justin Bouch threw two touchdown passes and Edinboro outscored Tiffin 33-0 in the second half.

Tiffin's Nate Washington caught TD passes of 12 and 16 yards from Ryan Harpold. Garrion Corbin rushed for 108 yards for the Dragons (1-3).

THIEL 35, BLUFFTON 7

BLUFFTON - Daryl Moore threw four touchdown passes, three in the second quarter, and Brandon Chambers caught eight passes for 283 yards for Thiel.

The Beavers (1-1) scored on an 11-yard interception return by Josh Parrish in the second quarter.

HILLSDALE 24, ASHLAND 21

ASHLAND, Ohio - Hillsdale's Bill Skelton threw two touchdown passes to Ryan Hermosillo, including a five-yarder with 40 seconds left.

Matt Menchinger missed two field goals in the fourth quarter for Hillsdale, forcing the Chargers (1-2, 1-1 GLIAC) to drive 45 yards in nine plays to score the winning touchdown after taking possession with 3:54 to play.

NORTHWOOD 35, FINDLAY 7

FINDLAY - Bryant Lawrence ran for two touchdowns and Reggie Graham passed for two to lead Northwood.

Lawrence, who gained 67 yards on 13 carries, scored on runs of four and two yards in the first quarter as the Timberwolves (1-2, 1-2 Great Lakes) took a 21-0 lead.

Jeremiah Bolden rushed for 103 yards on 20 carries for the Oilers (2-1, 1-1), whose only score was on Mike Leach's 15-yard TD pass to Andy Witker with 10 seconds remaining in the first half.

CAPITAL 30, OHIO NORTHERN 20

ADA, Ohio - Ura Clerk caught 11 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown and Jason Bainum ran for 93 yards and the go-ahead score for Capital.

Bainum's 5yard -yard TD run gave the Crusaders (2-0, 1-0 Ohio Conference) a 16-13 lead with 8:51 left in the third. Clerk caught a 42-yard TD pass from Rocky Pentello about two minutes later to make it 23-13.

Zach Weber's third touchdown pulled the Polar Bears (0-2, 0-1) within 23-20 late in the third, but Capital pushed its lead back to 10 points on Greg Grant's 19-yard TD run early in the fourth.

Weber rushed for 105 yards with TD runs of 17 and 18 yards. He also caught an eight-yard TD pass from Jeff Soliday, who was 18-of-30 for 244 yards.
