FROM BLADE STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

Ten freshmen at Owens Community College learned a valuable lesson last night.

The Express men s basketball team was complacent in the first half and trailed the Siena Heights junior varsity 35-31 at halftime.

But Owens outscored the Saints 22-0 in the first five minutes of the second half.

“We played with more urgency in the second half,” Owens coach Jim Welling said, noting that 10 of the 12 players who saw action last night are in their first year with the team. He said they learned that playing anything less than full speed won t get the job done.

Dominic Perry-Harrison led Owens with 26 points. Sean Washington added 14, Andrae Martin and Willie Tisdale 12 and Danny Rose 11.

Martin also had nine rebounds as Owens outrebounded the visitors 46-32.

Owens travels to Lorain Community College for a game tomorrow.
