Adrian chews up Alma

ALMA, Mich. - Brian Schaefer (21 points) and Adam Novak (18) combined for 39 points in Adrian s 79-65 win against Alma yesterday.

The Bulldogs (12-3, 2-1 Michigan Intercollegiate) shot 58.3 percent from the 3-point line in the first and built an 11-point lead at the half.

Ricky Clarkson led Alma with 16 points off the bench.

The Scots shot 50 percent from the floor and held the Bulldogs to 41.2 percent overall, but only managed 9 of 23 3-point attempts.

OHIO NORTHERN 69, MOUNT UNION 66

ADA - Jim Conrad scored 21 points, including eight in the last three minutes, to lead Ohio Northern.

Conrad scored 17 points in the second half and eight of the last 12 points for the Polar Bears (11-4, 5-3 Ohio Conference).

Brett Hershberger missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer as time expired. Hershberger couldn t get a good look at the basket and took the shot from about 25 feet.

The Purple Raiders (10-5, 5-3) took a 63-58 lead with 2:28 to play on a basket by Clay Sanders. Conrad made a 3-pointer and a free throw, and Billy Barkimer and Mark Killian scored to give the Polar Bears a 66-63 lead with 40 seconds to play.

After Conrad made it 67-63 with a free throw, Brad Gerard made a 3-pointer to pull Mount Union to within 67-66 with six seconds to play. Conrad made a pair of free throws with five seconds to play.

Curtis Stevens scored 14 points and Kyle Karpinski scored 10 for Mount Union.

Chad Bostelman had 11 points for Ohio Northern.

CAPITAL 68, HEIDELBERG 54

TIFFIN - Five Crusaders scored in double digits as Capital won its fifth straight on the road.

Heidelberg led by two at halfime, but Capital came out to start the second half with a 10-0 run.

Senior Adam Stolly scored 14 points for Capital and Jake Beck (St. John s) added 13.

Kenny Gilbert of the Student Princes led all scorers with 22 points.

FINDLAY 94, SAGINAW VALLEY 69

FINDLAY - Frank Phillips scored 19 points to lead five players in double figures as Findlay shot 63 percent from the field.

The Oilers (13-4, 5-2 Great Lakes Conference) finished 35-of-56 from the field.

Dustin Pfeifer added 16 for Findlay, Matt Metzger had 14, Brad Rethman 13 and Chris Commons (Central Catholic) 12.

TRANSYLVANIA 92, BLUFFTON 63

BLUFFTON - Brad Boyles led Bluffton with 17 points, while freshman Michael Anthony added 11.

The Beavers recorded 17 turnovers to Transylvania s nine.

DEFIANCE 71, MOUNT ST. JOSEPH 58

CINCINNATI- Defiance sophomore Curt Croy led all scorers with 21 points, while freshman Ryan Bruley, added 15 and junior Matt Voland 14.
