Bergman's 50 points break Bluffton record

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Scott Bergman set a Bluffton University record with 50 points yesterday in a 92-81 victory over Anderson.

Bergman, a Woodmore graduate, hit seven of his 11 shots from 3-point range, five of six from inside the arc and 19 of 20 free-throw attempts. He also led the Beavers (10-7, 3-3 HCAC) with eight rebounds.

Bergman's 50 points broke the former school record of 46 points set by Jamie Yount against Goshen College during the 1994-95 season.

Eric Sweet added 16 points for Bluffton.

J.D. Clampitt had 27 for Anderson (8-9, 1-5).

OWENS CC 72, CINCINNATI STATE 69

CINCINNATI - Owens Community College remained undefeated in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference with the overtime victory.

Cal Davis, Larry Logan and Brian Sellers paced the Express with 12, 11 and 11 points, respectively.

Kendrick Miller sank two free throws with 13.8 seconds in regulation left to lift Owens (19-2, 5-0) into a 64-64 tie, bringing on the overtime. In OT, the Express made six of eight free throws to three of six for Cincinnati State (12-7, 1-4). Shawn Washington took a charge with 25 seconds left in overtime to give Owens the ball with its 72-69 lead.

Terlle Redden paced Cincinnati State with 22 points.

FINDLAY 70, MICHIGAN TECH 52

FINDLAY - Chris Commons scored 20 points and Findlay hit 54 percent from the field.

Commons hit 10 of 12 shots from the field and added four rebounds and three blocked shots for the Oilers (16-2, 10-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate).

OHIO NORTHERN 73, CAPITAL 54

ADA, Ohio - Greg Badenhop scored 27 points to lead Ohio Northern.

Badenhop hit all eight of his free throws and was 8-of-15 from the field for the Polar Bears (8-8, 5-4 Ohio Athletic Conference). Bart Hostetler added career highs of 11 points and seven rebounds.

David Kalb scored 11 points and David Johnson had 10 for the Crusaders (11-5, 7-3).

HANOVER 65, DEFIANCE 55

HANOVER, Ind. - Curt Croy scored 18 points and C.J. Johnson added 16 for Defiance (7-10, 0-6 HCAC) in a losing cause.

Ben Lye had 20 points for Hanover (13-4, 4-2).

GAMES POSTPONED

  • Heidelberg's game against Mt. Union scheduled for yesterday in Alliance, Ohio, was postponed until tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.

  • Adrian's home game against Kalamazoo was moved from yesterday to today at 3 p.m.

  • Siena Heights game at Cornerstone will be played tomorrow night at 7:30.
