Men's basketball roundup: Badenhop scores 24 to lead Ohio Northern; Shriver nets 26 for 'Berg

MARIETTA, Ohio - Greg Badenhop's 24 points led six players in double figures to lead Ohio Northern to a 107-98 win over Marietta yesterday.

Jared Bostelman, Ryan Lee and Nate Lieb each scored 17 points and Mark Killian and Charlie Kelly added 11 apiece for the Polar Bears (13-10, 10-6 Ohio Conference), who hit 57 percent of their shots from the field.

Matt Hines scored 23 points, Chad Sponseller and Craig Stewart each had 13 and Brett Atherton added 12 for Marietta (3-20, 1-15), which picked up 54 points from substitutes.

Ohio Northern hit 24-of-34 free throws and held a 50-35 upper hand in rebounding. Marietta, which leads the conference in 3-pointers attempted and made, hit 12 of 43 behind the arc.

HEIDELBERG 73,

WILMINGTON 70

WILMINGTON, Ohio - Shawn Shriver scored 16 of his 26 points in the second half, and Heidelberg closed the game with an 8-1 run, setting up a victory over Wilmington.

Heidelberg (7-16, 4-13 Ohio Conference) got baskets from four different players in the closing spurt, and Wilmington (9-14, 5-1) missed its last five shots.

Shriver went 6-of-8 from 3-point range and 10-of-14 from the field overall. Heidelberg made 18 of its 24 shots in the second half - 75 percent - and 62.5 percent overall from the field. Deon Short led Wilmington with 20 points.

The score was tied five times in the second half and had nine lead changes. Short's two free throws put Wilmington up 69-65 with 3:57 left, but all Wilmington managed the rest of the way was another free throw by Short.

OWENS 83, EDISON 60

Owens had four players in double figures, and the Express' bench outscored Edison's 34-14.

Cal Davis scored 19, Willie Tisdale 16, Larry Logan 14 and Ronnell Isom 10 for Owens (24-3, 10-1 OCCAC).

Owens' defensive pressure limited Edison (7-17, 1-9), which made just 20 of its 62 shots from the field.

FINDLAY 67, MERCYHURST 60

ERIE, Pa. - The Oilers clinched home-court advantage in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament and their fourth consecutive GLIAC South Division title with their win over the Lakers.

Senior guard Tyson McGlaughlin led the Oilers with 17 points in the win and went 4-of-7 from 3-point range.

ANDERSON 69, BLUFFTON 67

ANDERSON, Ind. - Sophomore Michael Anthony led Bluffton with 15 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Bluffton dropped to 12-11, 5-7 HCAC.

DEFIANCE 67, HANOVER 61

DEFIANCE - Curt Croy scored 22 points as the Yellow Jackets defeated 15th-ranked Hanover.

C.J. Johnson added 17 points for Defiance (10-3, 3-9 Heartland).

ALBION 80, ADRIAN 67

ALBION, Mich. - Mike Thomas scored 19 points and Evan Way added 12 off the bench in Albion's win over Adrian.

Thomas shot 4 of 6 in the first, including three 3-pointers. The Britons (20-2, 10-2 Michigan Intercollegiate) shot 72 percent from the floor in the first half for a 47-28 lead en route to the victory, which gave the team its third consecutive 20-win season for the first time in school history.

WAYNE STATE 76,

HILLSDALE 70

DETROIT - Morris Hall scored 20 points and Herb Goliday added 18 in Wayne State's win over Hillsdale.

Trailing 44-39 at the half, the Warriors (14-8, 8-4 Great Lakes) held Hillsdale to 35 percent shooting from the floor and made 12 of 21 shots in the second for the win.

Hillsdale missed seven free-throw opportunities in the second half, hitting nine of 20 in the game.
