BG’s Berti makes All-MAC 1st team; UT gets 3 on list

Bowling Green State University had a first and second selection and the University of Toledo three second-team selections in the 2011 All-Mid-American Conference baseball squad as voted by the league’s 12 head coaches.

John Berti of the Falcons made the first team as the utility player. Rocket senior infielder Chris Dudics received second-team all-league accolades for the second-consecutive season and was joined on the second team by junior outfielder Ben Hammer and junior designated hitter Mark Lapikas. BGSU first baseman Clay Duncanalso made the scond team.

Dudics recently became UT’s all-time hit leader with a single at Ball State in the second game of Friday’s doubleheader. He has collected 252 hits surpassing former Rocket All-American Sean Dobson (249, 2001-04).

Catcher Tom Murphy of Buffalo was named catcher of the year and Kyle Hallock of Kent the pitcher of the year. Jeff Zimmerman of Northern Illinois is freshman of the year and Kent’s Scott Stricklin coach of the year.
