Owens volleyball loses to Oakland

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Owens Express volleyball team pushed No. 2-ranked Oakland to the limit before falling in a three-game championship final of the NJCAA Division II regional tournament last weekend.

The No. 4-ranked Express lost to Oakland in their first meeting of the tournament, then played their way back into the title match by moving through the loser’s bracket. Owens beat Oakland 15-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19 in the first match of the championship playoff, forcing a deciding meeting.

Oakland won 25-19, 26-24, 25-14 in the final to advance to the national tournament Nov. 17-19 at Owens.

Ellie Comes (Southview graduate) and Brittany Egbert (Hopewell-Loudon) were named to the all-tournament team. Comes finished her career as the Owens all-time leader in digs, while Egbert ranks second all-time in kills.

Owens (45-5) fell just one win short of the school record for wins in a season.
