BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Owens Community College men's golf team is in first place through 36 holes of the NJCAA Region XII tournament at Bedford Valley Golf Course .
Hoelzer, a Fremont Ross graduate, the defending medalist at the evernt, has a four-stroke lead over teammate Pillippe Wapperning and Jared Multer of Grand Rapids CC.
Holzer has shot 69 68—137, while Weppernig is at 70-71—141.
Other Owens golfers are Kirby Manown (77-80—157), Dru Hein (78-80-158), and Timothy Dawkins (79-85—164).
The Express, ranked No. 3, shot rounds of 290 and 292 for a 6-over 582 to lead second-place Grand Rapids by 12 strokes.
The final round is today and the top two teams advance to the NJCAA national tournament where Owens finished 10th last year.
