COLUMBUS — Ohio State coach Urban Meyer confirmed freshman wide receiver Trevon Grimes is currently away from the team, but said the true freshman still is part of the Buckeyes’ program.

A freshman wide receiver from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Grimes has returned home to be with a sick family member, Meyer said.

Ohio State canceled its usual Monday press conference earlier this week, which a spokesman said was because Meyer was visiting a player whose family member was going through a health problem. On Wednesday, Meyer said he didn’t want to go into too much detail about Grimes’ situation yet.

“Trevon is dealing with family health issues. I saw him, he’s doing great,” Meyer said. “But out of respect for him and his family, not right now.”

The true freshman was one of the most highly recruited players in the class of 2017. Grimes has played sparingly as a freshman, recording three catches for 20 yards in two games played.
