A murder charge has been dropped against the man accused of killing Scott Fitzgerald Harris, whose body was found Monday morning in an East Toledo alley by two children on their way to school.

Travis Jones, 22, is being released for lack of evidence, police said yesterday afternoon. He was ordered held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $750,000 bond at his arraignment Tuesday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Mr. Harris' body was found at about 9 a.m. in a pool of blood in a snowy alley in the 800 block of Stillman Street. Authorities said the victim likely had been killed where he was found.

Dr. Diane Barnett, a Lucas County deputy coroner, said he "died as a result of multiple sharp-force injuries, such as in stabbing and cutting." The death probably occurred two to three hours before he was found, she said. The official ruling is pending investigation, the deputy coroner said earlier this week.

Chief Mike Navarre said Friday the probe is continuing.
