A Toledo man charged in a decades-old rape case is to go to trial April 11.

Bradley Roberts, 43, of 5120 Secor Rd., No. 103, was charged with one count each of rape, kidnapping, and gross sexual imposition. He is accused of the July, 1993, sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl who had been riding her bike near Hillview Elementary and Arbor Hills Junior High School in Sylvania Township.

Because of the age of the victim, Roberts faces up to life in prison if convicted of rape.

Roberts was indicted in November, after DNA evidence collected at the time of the assault linked him to the crime.

Wednesday, Judge James Jensen denied two motions filed by the defense to dismiss the case — one claiming the charge violated the statute of limitations and one alleging the possible punishment of life in prison is disproportionate to the alleged facts in the case.
