Alleged killer of Sandusky officer enters not-guilty plea
4/1/2011SANDUSKY — The man accused of shooting and fatally wounding a city police officer pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder Thursday in his first court appearance.
Kevin Randleman, 50, of Sandusky appeared in Erie County Common Pleas Court. The family of slain police Officer Andrew Dunn — including his parents, wife, and at least 10 other family members — were in attendance, Erie County Prosecutor Kevin Baxter said.
A pretrial hearing for Randleman was set for April 22.
Officer Dunn, 30, made a traffic stop around 3 a.m. March 19 when he spotted Randleman riding his bicycle — which did not display the proper lights — on Sandusky’s Tyler Street.
The two exchanged gunfire, with Randleman struck twice in the arm while Officer Dunn was shot five times. Randleman is being held in the Erie County jail.
