Charges were dismissed in Lucas County Common Pleas Court Monday against a man once thought to be involved in the shooting of a police officer last July.

One count each of felonious assault and attempted aggravated murder, each with several gun and gang specifications, against Jorge Rojas, 20, of 847 Kingston Ave. were dismissed. He remains in custody on multiple aggravated robbery and felonious assault charges in a separate case.

He was one of four men charged in a July 19 incident in which Officer George Shaughnessy was shot at 11 times as he pursued them in his vehicle. The officer suffered a minor head wound but went to work the next day.

Charges in the incident against Raul Moya, 17, also were dismissed.

The driver, Chadd Rabara, 18, of 2526 Beaufort Ave. pleaded guilty to felonious assault with a gun specification and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He acknowledged driving the vehicle in which one of his co-defendants shot a 9-mm handgun out the window at the pursuing officer.

The suspected shooter, Martin Cheno, 21, of 1715 Parkdale Ave. is to go to trial May 31 before Judge Ruth Ann Franks.
