An Oct. 11 trial date was set in Lucas County Common Pleas Court Monday for Robert Bowman, whose first murder trial ended in a hung jury last week.

Bowman, 75, is charged with murder in the first degree for the 1967 slaying of a Sylvania Township teenager. He faces life in prison if convicted.

Eileen Adams, 14, was last seen Dec. 18, 1967, on a city bus after school. Her bound body was found in a Monroe County field on Jan. 30, 1968.

A jury of nine women and three men heard several days worth of evidence during Bowman’s trial that began Aug. 8. Judge Gene Zmuda declared a mistrial Aug. 23 after jurors deliberated for about 12 hours without reaching a consensus.

A juror who declined to give her name said the jury was stuck at a 10 to 2 vote in favor to convict.
