Man pleads not guilty in theft of political signs

A Toledo man charged with stealing dozens of judicial campaign signs throughout the city pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in Toledo Municipal Court yesterday.

Douglas Black, 66, is charged with criminal damaging and petty theft. His appearance in court was waived Friday and his attorney entered not-guilty pleas on his behalf. Judge William Connelly imposed a recognizance bond. A trial date has not been set.

According to court records, Mr. Black stole signs belonging to judicial candidate Michelle Wagner, and, with two signs, cut them up “into small pieces” at Reynolds Road and Heatherdowns Boulevard. More than 50 signs were reported missing on Aug. 19, police said
