Felon indicted on charge of possession of firearm
11/9/2011A Toledo man who served time in prison in 1997 for involuntary manslaughter was recently indicted in federal court for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Goldy Thompson is to be arraigned Nov. 16 in U.S. District Court in Toledo. He remains in custody.
According to an affidavit filed in federal court, Thompson was arrested Oct. 2 after he allegedly threatened someone in a bar with a gun. Police responding to the call struggled with Thompson, who allegedly tried to toss away a loaded 40-caliber handgun concealed under his clothing, the affidavit said.
Thompson was sentenced to five years in prison in October, 1997, after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of a bystander at a motorcycle club. In 2008, he was acquitted by a jury of three counts of aggravated murder for the deaths of three men in an Ohio Street home. His brother Stoney Thompson was convicted of the crimes and is serving three consecutive life sentences.
