A Toledo teen is to be sentenced Monday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court after he was found guilty last week by a jury of attempted murder and several other charges.

Ja’Varr Winters, 17, of 909 Woodland Ave., was convicted Friday of aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and attempt to commit murder, all with gun specifications.

He faces up to 23 years in prison at sentencing. He was found guilty after a weeklong trial before Judge Gary Cook.

Winters, who was 16 at the time of the incident, was convicted of the March 1 shooting of a man during a robbery in the 1100 block of Pinewood Avenue. He was determined to have shot the 56-year-old victim twice, once in the chest and once in the leg.

Winters initially appeared in Juvenile Court, where he was certified to stand trial as an adult.
