Jury convicts Toledo man of rape

A Lucas County Common Pleas Court jury Thursday convicted a Toledo man on three counts of rape for the assault of a 12-year-old girl.

Frederick Coffey, 56, of 921 Homer Ave., was found guilty after a four-day trial that included testimony from the now 13-year-old victim. He faces life in prison when sentenced Friday by Judge Linda Jennings.

Coffey was arrested soon after the Feb. 4, 2011, incident. Because the victim was under the age of 13, each rape count carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison with parole eligibility after 10 years.

The jury of eight women and four men deliberated for about one hour before returning the guilty verdicts.
