A Toledo man charged with illegally collecting and storing hundreds of scrap tires at a local storage facility appeared Friday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, two days after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Jeremy Goldthwaite, 31, of 4140 South Ave. pleaded not guilty to three felony counts including open dumping, illegal storage of scrap tires, and illegal transportation of scrap tires as well as misdemeanor failure to ensure legal disposal or storage.

Judge James Jensen rescinded the warrant that had been issued Wednesday when Mr. Goldthwaite initially failed to appear for his arraignment. Judge Jensen then released him on a supervised recognizance bond.

According to the Ohio Attorney General's Office, which is handling the case, Mr. Goldthwaite is accused of storing more than 300 tires at the Around Town self-storage facility, 1028 S. Holland-Sylvania Rd., between Oct. 18, 2009, and Jan. 19, 2010.

Judge Jensen scheduled his trial for April 23.
