$1M bond set for man held on rape charge

Bond was set at $1 million Wednesday for a 21-year-old man accused of breaking into a central Toledo home and raping a woman, authorities said.

Shawn Rowlett, of 1661 Fernwood Ave. was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court on one count each of rape and aggravated burglary. He was ordered held in the Lucas County jail pending an April 4 hearing.

He is accused of kicking in the front door at the woman’s Hidden Valley Drive home shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, forcing the victim into the back bedroom, and sexually assaulting her, Toledo police said. The suspect fled upon hearing police crews approaching , but was arrested about 11 p.m. in the 5300 block of Hill Avenue in South Toledo, police said.
