A June 4 trial date was confirmed Wednesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for the former North Toledo carryout employee charged in the death of a would-be robber.

Bandar Abu-Karsh, 38, is charged with voluntary manslaughter for the Nov. 21 shooting of Lamar Allen, 25, who died from multiple gunshot wounds. Allen was with Joseph Hunter of Toledo, when police say they entered the Express Carryout on Mulberry Street and tried to rob it while Mr. Abu-Karsh was working.

If convicted, Mr. Abu-Karsh faces up to 11 years in prison. Judge Gary Cook also set a May 23 pretrial hearing. Mr. Abu-Karsh is held in the Seneca County jail in an unrelated immigration case.

Hunter was later convicted for his role in the crime and sentenced to 32 years in prison.
