A new trial date was ordered Wednesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for the former North Toledo carryout employee charged in the death of a man who was attempting to rob him.

Bandar Abu-Karsh, 38, is charged with voluntary manslaughter for the Nov. 21 shooting of Lamar Allen, 25, who died from multiple gunshot wounds. The new trial date was set for June 25.

Allen was with Joseph Hunter of Toledo when police say they entered the Express Carryout on Mulberry Street and tried to rob it while Mr. Abu-Karsh was working. Hunter was later convicted for his role in the crime and sentenced to 32 years in prison.

Judge Gary Cook vacated a June 4 trial date to give more time for the preparation of Hunter's trial transcript. Mr. Abu-Karsh is held in the Seneca County jail in an unrelated immigration case. If convicted on the manslaughter charge, he faces up to 11 years in prison.
