Bond set at $500,000 each for men charged in Moody Manor case

Prosecutor says murder charges likely coming

Keshawn Jennings, 20, Antwaine Jones, 18, and James Moore, 20, are all charged with third-degree felony obstructing justice in connection with a shooting at Moody Manor that killed a 1-year-old girl and injured a 2-year-old girl.

The men charged with lying to police in regards to a deadly shooting of a toddler at the Moody Manor complex will likely face murder charges in the weeks to come, according to an assistant Lucas County prosecutor.

Keshawn Jennings, 20, of 244 Wasaon St.; James Moore, 20, of 2037 W. Terrace View St.; and Antwaine Jones, 18, of 3145 Cottage Ave. each appeared in Lucas County Common Pleas Court today. They each pleaded not guilty to one count of felony obstructing justice.

An Oct. 2 trial date was set for each case.

Assistant Prosecutor Andy Lastra told Judge Frederick McDonald that although the men now only face accusations of impairing the murder investigation of 1-year-old Keondra Hooks, that additional charges are forthcoming. Judge McDonald noted the prosecutor’s words when setting the bond for each man at $500,000.

“I’m sympathetic to the arguments you make but I have to take into consideration all the facts of the case including the prosecutor’s representation that an indictment of a homicide charge is imminent,” the judge said to the men’s attorneys, who argued for a lower bond.

Keondra Hooks was shot once in the head Aug. 9 when at least 12 rounds were fired into a Moody Manor apartment where she and her sister were sleeping.

Keondra died 12 hours later in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. Her sister Leondra Hooks, 2, was shot in the chest but survived.

Police believe that the shooters thought they were firing into an apartment claimed by the Manor Boys to take down a member of the Cherry Woodz, a gang at the Greenbelt Place apartments.

If convicted on the obstructing justice charges, each man faces up to three years in prison.

Several supporters of the men appeared in Judge McDonald’s courtroom and left without comment after the arraignment.
