A Toledo man was sentenced to seven years in prison Wednesday after being found guilty of beating up his 67-year-old mother.

Mark Wiler, 46, of 154 Lancaster Ave., was ordered to serve five years in prison for attempted kidnapping and two years for felony domestic violence. Lucas County Common Pleas Judge James Jensen noted that Wiler had twice served prison terms before for assaults on the same victim and ordered that the sentences be served consecutively.

Authorities said the victim drove herself to the Springfield Township Fire Department on May 29 after she was able to get out of her home. She told authorities that her son had beaten her.

Judge Jensen noted that Wiler had an extensive history involving drug and alcohol abuse and that he became violent when he was under the influence.

The judge further noted that Wiler had been given several opportunities by the courts to get his addictions and anger issues under control.

The case was prosecuted by the senior protection unit of the county prosecutor’s office.
