A Toledo man whose car struck two pedestrians on an East Toledo sidewalk in July, killing one, was indicted today by a Lucas County grand jury.

Michael Yates, 41, of Ironwood Avenue, is charged in county Common Pleas Court with one count each of aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. He faces up to 13 years in prison if convicted.

Stefanie Arnold, 27, of the Cleveland suburb of Painesville, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Chelsea Skoch, 23, of nearby Madison, Ohio, was injured.

Police said Mr. Yates lost control of his vehicle about 8:20 p.m. July 21 while driving east on Miami Street near the northbound I-75 exit ramp. The vehicle swerved off the right side of the street and hit the two women, who were walking west along Miami near the Days Inn on Oregon Road.

The vehicle, which also hit a fire hydrant, continued about 150 feet before stopping.
