Two men charged with aggravated murder appeared Wednesday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Both Andrew Goetz of 614 Earl St. and Chaz Jackson, 1158 Clark St., both 28, were ordered by Judge Robert Christiansen to be held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $1 million bonds each.

They are accused of robbing and fatally shooting Jonathan Morris, 22, in the early morning hours on Friday at East Toledo’s Ravine Park Village.

Family of both suspects attended the appearances and said they felt bad for the victim’s family, but proclaimed innocence on behalf of the suspects, who have been friends since they were young.

Mr. Jackson’s mother, Louise Jackson, said her son “was crying all weekend because he knew the victim.”

Mr. Jackson’s brother, Earl Williams, said, “I’m sorry that the guy is dead ... I’m sorry he’s gone, but my brother didn’t do it and neither did ‘Hot Boy.’ ”

Hot Boy is a nickname by which Goetz is also known.

Goetz waived a preliminary hearing and his case was bound over to the Lucas County grand jury.

Mr. Jackson will appear in municipal court next Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
