3 suspects arraigned in robbery of 2 UT students

Three Cincinnati men -- at least two of them University of Toledo students -- were arraigned today for allegedly robbing two other students at gunpoint in on-campus housing.

Randall Whitehead Jr., 18, Stevon Nelms, 18, and Jerron Briggs, 20, are being held in the Lucas County jail after arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court.

Mr. Whitehead, a UT student, is charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary; his bond was set at $150,000. Mr. Nelms, also a UT student, is charged with complicity; his bond is set at $75,000. Mr. Briggs, who does not appear to be a student, is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon.

According to documents filed by University of Toledo police in Toledo Municipal Court, the men are accused of having involvement in the Oct. 17 robbery of students Khire Lateef and William Hendricks in the victims' dorm room in Horton International House, 1730 W. Rocket Dr., just before midnight.

Police allege that the three men went into the victims' dorm room, at least one armed with a gun pointed at the victims. The men were given items and then fled, the records state.

Police report having surveillance video that corroborates an "admission" from one of the suspects.

One of the suspects allegedly told police he threw the bag of stolen property into a dumpster at the request of another suspect.
